No To the Bike Parking Tax

The No To the Bike Parking Tax campaign attended the Westminster ALL Council Meeting held Weds 28th Jan 09, 7pm (3 minute Video report click here), where the subject of motorcycle parking charges was on the agenda. A petition was handed in by Cllr Paul Dimoldenberg and he gave a 3 minute speech calling for the scrapping of the charge, with a reply from Councillor Danny Chalkley (The spear-head of the parking charge) whereby he regurgitated the same old nonsense, claiming he would be reviewing the charge in Feb and all objections will be considered over 750 so far that is… and rising every minute, as is they money they have raked in from us, for a non-service.

The rest of the councillors in the room were unusually quiet… since the meeting got off with a lot of banter.. when the subject of motorcycle parking fees was brought up, an air of silence blew over the whole council, with jeers from the public gallery aimed at Danny Chalkley.

We are getting through to them.

Thanks to all that attended the meeting last night, it was cold and wet! If you haven’t yet (750+ have!), please send in your objection via email (use our form), this will go to ALL Westminster Councillors who are now well aware of our presence and this issue, and resentment at the introduction of the experimental parking charge, however, this resentment does not 100% lie with Danny Chalkley although of course he is the number 1 antagonist, we must get through to ALL Westminster Councillors.

Can I firstly thank you for your great efforts in spreading the word. The subscribers, the objections & the No.10 Petition are all gathering pace, and the vitriol & resentment being directed at the staff & Councillors is starting to get through to Westminster.

However, as the 18th Feb objection deadline approaches, we really have to step up our activities to get right under the skin of the modern-day highwaymen of Westminster Council, so I do hope you don’t feel that we are "spamming" you. We do have a lot going on that needs your support and we will need to keep you informed.

On Wednesday 28th Jan, Cllr Paul Dimoldenberg (who has spoken at our events) will be presenting a petition against the Motorbike Parking Charges at the Council meeting.

The meeting is at the Council House, 97-113 Marylebone Road NW1 5PT, at the corner of Gloucester Place, and starts at 6:30pm [VIEW MAP]. The meeting is open to the public and ALL Westminster Councillors will be present. He will also be making a short speech on the motorbike parking charges at about 8.00pm, to which Councillor Chalkley will reply. He will be calling for the scrapping of the charges.

If you are able to attend please do so in order to show Councillors the strength of opposition there is to the motorbike parking charges, we hope you will be there, all committee members will be attending.

Then on Sunday 1st Feb, the Ace Cafe is hosting the start of what should be our largest rally to date, when we will slow-drive through Westminster en route to the MCN London Motorcycle Show at ExCel (NB, if you intend to follow this rally inside the show, I believe there are still some 2 for 1 ticket offers available) we will be campaigning and recruiting when we get there, inside and out. Full details of starting point, routes & eta are available on our website here.

This is a very important demo for us. Quite simply, we have debunked all their phoney justifications, all we have to do is really show them how many people are against them. They need to know that a riot is in the offing unless they scrap this charge. It is too dangerous a precedent and is being levied against a group of people that they really should leave alone.

Let’s show them what happens when you attack a small part of a very large fraternity.
