WESTMINSTER COUNCIL INCREASINGLY ISOLATED Thanks again for your continued support in this campaign. United we will defeat this experimental parking tax. Please keep spreading the word about the campaign, there are still people out there receiving PCNs every day (Appeal Motorcycle and Scooter PCNs) who know nothing about our campaign. Westminster are clearly taking money from these people without proper justification. Westminster City Council (Danny Chalkley) are becoming increasingly isolated on this issue. We understand Robert Goodwill MP, Shadow Roads Minister, MP for Scarborough and Whitby (also a member of the All Party Parliamentary Motorcycle Group) who at first was in favour of parking taxes on motorcycles and scooters, dramatically changed his tune by issuing this statement "The fee set by Westminster is £1.50p as I understand it. Please note that this is not a policy set by the Conservative Party nationally but a local policy decided by Westminster councillors. We are, however, committed to devolving power, and hence decisions like this, to locally elected representatives. I agree that motor cycles can play a part in reducing congestion. The majority of bikes also have good environmental credentials (although there are no figures published as with cars and some of the magazine road tests get particularly poor mpg) and Boris has changed Ken’s line on bikes in bus lanes.
