London the Long Way Round… view email in browser

Dear <<First Name>>!

In this mail, we’re going to ask just 2 things of you, and if you are as determined as we are to see not only an end to Westminster Motorcycle Parking Tax, but to also ensure that no other Council wants to emulate them, then you will have no problem in rallying to our call.

Before that, some Important news about the WMBC

Due to the prohibitive costs incurred in sending SMS Text messages, and, with over 1,000 registered and attendance at any one WMBC yet to hit 100+ (near, but not yet 100), we have decided to implement the following change. As Trafalgar Square is such a potent place to demonstrate our message, from now on all meetings of WMBC will be at 7.30 am at Costa in Villiers Street WC2N (Map). Alerts to the 1,000+ registered will be by email the day before, although this will be purely a reminder:

Our 2 requests:-

Donate The Final Fifties

Last time/week we launched our "Final Fifties" – why "Final"?, because this should be the last time you will need to donate money. Why £50′s?, because we NEED (emphasis on "NEED") to raise the final £30,000 and an incredible benefactor has agreed to match any £50 donation. We need it to ensure the epic showdown Court Case scheduled for 24 June goes ahead. Thus, with 300 donations of £50 needed, the list rapidly broke through the 50 number last Friday (view list of donators here), including, I am delighted to report, over 70% of all old & new committee members donating their £50′s. Unfortunately, even with over 200+ regularly contributing to our forum, only a fraction seem to have donated, even though there is regular mentions of it. Guys, we’ve come so far down the road together, it would be criminal if we fell now at the very last hurdle. PLEASE, make those donations. Full details here.

Join us on Saturday June 19th – Mega Demo around the M25.

The bit so many of you have been waiting for. We can now release the estimated timings for our passing each of the 31 junctions (including the 3 Services Stations at which there will be a 20 minute break). Please go to (Junction and meeting places for the demo) and please, CHOOSE YOUR JUNCTION, or meet us at THE ACE CAFE :) !!

Guys, if we are to get anything near the sort of number we need to make this the spectacular ride-out we need, promoting it is really down to you. Tell your friends. Get your club to join in. Go on the other motorcycle forums and either post a new thread about the M25 Ride-out, or, if there, post your comments as this will take the thread to the top of the pile in most cases. Add comments to articles in the Motorcycle on-line press and make sure you mention 19th June therein. etc, etc.

SUMMARY - Donate & Join the Mega-Demo on 19th June to show WCC (a) the true depth of revulsion by so many, (b) all other Councils – leave the riders alone.

See you then

Warren & the Committee

Campaign news #113

The end is finally in sight as the Court names the day – please carefully read this, our most important of all messages view email in browser

Hello <<Last Name>>,

Our message this week is by far and away the most important of the campaign to date, with 3 of the most prolific announcements, for which we ask for your careful attention:-

  • 1) The High Court names the day!
  • 2) The "Final Fifties"
  • 3) The Mother of All Demos

Hot on the heels of a hugely well-attended weekend demo, where over 500 of you joined us to disperse leaflets all over WCC Leader (PhotosVideo 1, Video 2), Colin Barrow’s ward in an attempt to alert the electorate to the character of the man they chose last time round, and as we prepare to repeat it on Wednesday evening when the WESC has its second outing (5th May 2010 sign up for free SMS location alert here), with Cllr Chalkley’s ward the final destination, we write with 3 of the biggest pieces of news to date.

The High Court Names The Day!

Finally, and following many hours of preparation and filing of claims & witness statements, these only made possible with the incredible donations so far, we have been alerted by the High Court that "our day in Court" has been listed for:

Thursday 24th June 2010

We will hopefully be furnished with more details regarding viewing galleries and waiting areas in the Court near the time. Whilst many of you will relish viewing the proceedings, we would also encourage as many of you as possible to help fill the Strand outside the Court in a display of solidarity with those inside.

The main element of this news is that the campaign against the blatant attack on the least demanding group of road-users is that an end is in sight. Win or lose, we will have given the biggest Council in the country one helluva bloody-nose, whilst exposing the more dubious aspect of their behaviour regarding the way they look after their own, and their pals that provide private services to the Council, with the residents and rate-payers’ interests way down the priority list. And that is purely down to what has been described by many as the most dynamic campaigns ever witnessed in the UK, and certainly, contrary to what they might try and con the press into believing, absolutely like nothing this council has ever experienced.

The "Final Fifties" – the last time we ask you for money!!

Whilst we have been encouraging you to donate when you can, the plain truth is that, to see the job comfortably through, we need to raise not only the remaining £20k, but an additional £10k on top. However, we are delighted to announce that we have been given the most tremendously philanthropic gesture. A regular supporter, who wishes to remain anonymous has promised to MATCH any donation of £50 (or multiples thereof), be it from individuals, groups, friends, clubs whoever. Therefore, whilst we now seek donations of £50, you can rest assured that this will be the FINAL donation we will need ask of you. And with this incredible offer, the number of donations of £50 has now halved.

We will display a table which we have aptly named the "Final Fifties" and the list will comprise 300 slots. For you to enter your name (or that of your group/club/company etc.) and let’s get those filled asap by completing the NEW "Final Fifties Donations" located on this page and follow the instructions there.

For the majority of you who would find £50 way out of reach, don’t despair – you can still donate what you can, and it will added to a collection pot known as "Friends of NTBPT" and whenever that fund passes £50, it too will be added to the 300 list.

And finally, the announcement that got the biggest cheer at our demo last Saturday!!…the mother of all ride-outs.

On Saturday 19th June, we shall ride for one complete lap of the M25 (117 miles) in the inaugural "London – the long way round" Parade, Once this is primarily for the thousands of you who want be able to attend the hearing days which are during the working week in the centre of London, and whilst we appreciate that many smaller cc machines would be excluded, there are 3 other powerful, and highly symbolic reasons:-

  • a) to really show everyone that still sides with the robber-barons of Westminster Council, as well as the law-makers and the Court the true extent of the "army" of malcontents circling and surrounding the Metropolis
  • b) to send a clear signal to all the other London (and non-London) councils that may be tempted to follow Westminster’s lead
  • c) to show that the bikers are reforming as in days of old to once again become one of the most powerful lobbying groups in the UK.

Starting at the M40 junction, we will ride clockwise around the M25 hopefully being joined by you & bikers from all over the country at your/their preferred junction. As we intend to cruise at a safe 45mph, we will post estimated times that we anticipate to be passing each junction, and we will be making full 15 minute pit-stop at each of the service stations to allow re-fuels; leg-stretches; bum-reviving etc but more crucially, a chance to pick up other riders safely. Please take note that this inaugural run will be unashamedly fund-raising for the legal fund by asking anyone joining us to contribute £5. We intend to use these as the official count for the numbers that attended, so, should you ride but not contribute, alas, you won’t be counted!

We hope to be able to offer both "I was there" t-shirts and commemorative hi-viz’s in the run-up to June 19th, but the main emphasis will be on encouraging you all to become OUR promotional department. We really need to you pass the word to make this ride-out, even though its the first time, one of the best attended.

Friends, the end of our "journey" together may well be in sight, so please help us in this our final furlongs to ensure that our legacy is permanently etched in the minds of the bureaucrats lest they ever want to challenge the biking community again. And whatever may befall the campaign, lets hope the "London – the long way round" becomes and annual charity event that keeps that legacy alive.

See as many of you as possible at either, or both Wednesday’s WMBC & WESC on 5th May 2010 (Reg for free SMS location alert here)

Time for another demonstration, we mean business… view email in browser

Hello <<First Name>>,

Tomorrow (Sat, 1st May) is the first MEGA DEMO for a while, this is a little reminder, that it is still on and we mean business!

Logistics (Maps & meeting points)

We have 2 meeting points, and if any of you have been on one of our demonstration rides before you will recognise them. We usually meet at the Ace Cafe before a demo to stock up ours stomachs and give us some energy for the task and ride ahead, tomorrows first meeting point is the Ace we ask you to arrive between 9:30am-10:00am for a 10:30am depart from the Ace.. we will then ride in to Central London.

For those that cannot make the Ace Cafe.. there is a second meeting point again, previous demo riders will be familiar with it.. it is an old haunt of ours.. Park Land Underground Car Park for 11:30am. If you do not know where that is here is a little map to help (NOTE: Wait for it to load, it will show both meeting points) however it is just of Park Lane and there are lots of signs, plus look out for the riders!

NOTE: Please bring BLU-TAC and/or sticky tape, it WILL be needed!

In other news

Council Leader tries to get an injunction against the campaign ahead of this Saturdays demonstration, but he FAILS. Read letter from his lawyers and the campaigns response. Even more reason to be at the demonstration tomorrow, these fat cats in Westminster City Hall, treat us like cash cows and then think they can gag us with money… no way, we will not let that happen!

Wednesday Morning Breakfast Clubs going from strength to strength

A time to thank all those riders that attend the early Wednesday Morning Breakfast Clubs, they are spreading our message further to the wider public and exposing Westminster City Council, Councillors Chalkley, Barrow and the parking department for what they are.. crooks, who use all of us at cash cows, we are the only ones standing up to them, let’s keep it up! Great work to those that make it every Wednesday. For a gallery of photos from the past meets, check this page. And for the leaflet that we are handing out to all car drivers, passers by and anyone else that takes one… here it is, we think it is very effective!

High Court Date Given to us!

The date of our High Court case has been given to us, we will announce the full details soon, but it is not for a few months from now, but this is great news and thanks for all the donations so far, we really will get Westminster Council in the dock eventually! All other legal democratic means have failed, remember the 8,000+ written objections, ignored.. no more people.. let’s keep the fight going, they cannot sit in their tower for any longer.

Thanks for the continued support as always! Keep spreading the word!

Weekend demo coming up! Sat, 1st May… view email in browser

Dear <<First Name>>!

We have one major date to share with you, short and sweet, aside from our regular Wednesday Morning Breakfast Club, this Weekend Demo-ride will appeal to those further outside of London too, who would like to show their support.

NTBPT – Mega Demo – Saturday, 1st May 2010

Meet at Ace Cafe between 9:30am-10am for 10.30am departure – ride-out to Park Lane Underground Car Park for 11.30am departure (this is where we will meet those riders that cannot make it to the Ace Cafe, if you are one of those, please be at Park Lane Underground Car Park between 11am-11:30am – from Park Lane Car park we will ride-out around Marble Arch and via Lancaster Gate to Eastbourne Terrace.

As those of you who joined us on our largest demo last March where we attended a Westminster City Council Scrutiny Committee meeting, at which over 4,000 bikers amassed outside, the WCC Councillors showed their utter contempt for anyone that opposes them by making it clearly known that they can do as they please. People like us get to decide at local elections only, so they said…

The local elections are now here, and we intend to fully ram home those sentiments by exploiting the ignorance shown by the public toward voting for an individual, choosing rather to vote for the political party that candidate claims to represent.

On May 1st, from the Ace Cafe, we will descend on the electoral ward of the Westminster City Council Leader, Tory-party candidate Colin Barrow with a simple message that we hope to pin on every tree, lamp-post, car-windscreen and through every letterbox:

"Voting Tory? these are the only names you need" after which will be the other 2 Tory Candidate names. On the reverse of the leaflet will be an explanation as to why they should NOT vote for Colin Barrow.

Every politico we have spoken to has confirmed that, for any candidate, it is bad enough to be slated by opposing candidate who are trying to get elected ahead of you. But to be directly slated by others who are NOT standing would be devastating.

So, for those of you who can’t for logistical reasons attend or Wednesday Morning demos (which are proving very effective and the numbers keep on increasing, vid here from latest one), and are itching to get back on either a weekend or evening demo, then this is for you, and if you really want to put the final nails in the coffin of this vile tax, then you simply must help us ensure that, as a group, bikers can combine, when attacked, to oust those pretenders who think that the position of being able to decide our way of life is a privilege and not a right. A what better "pretender" to attack than none other than Westminster City Council Leader Colin Barrow. Should any of you feel any compassion for this rogue, you may like to know that multi-millionaire hedge fund manager Colin had no qualms in bankrupting one of his hedge fund companies called Eiger Capital owing Westminster Council (which he leads) a staggering £20k of unpaid business rates, the tab for which is being picked up by…guess who? Worry not for poor Colin though, of course he had another hedge fund company called Alpha Strategic with his partner, Kit Malthouse who chairs the Met Police Association in his spare time!!

If you can’t make it, you still can be of great assistance by promoting this event on all the other motorcycling forums that so many of you frequent. Be it your local club forum, or general biking forums, or even one of the many run by the on-line magazines, please make sure that you, and thus others are talking about May 1st.

Important.. the next demo-ride!

Following this demo, we intend to repeat the process on Wednesday May 5th, and the target will be Cllr Danny Chalkley – no introduction needed for this delightful fellow.

Dates for Your Diary

A list of upcoming events for your diaries… view email in browser

Dear <<First Name>>,

Not our usual newsletter, but a most important list of events happening related to the NTBPT Campaign triggered mainly by the General & Local Elections, at which people or we could say rider power is at its most potent, and thus NTBPT should be present. We have rated each event with up to 5 stars to indicate how important your support is for each.

**** – Monday 19th April – 7.30pm at Hein Gericke, 320 Clapham Road, Stockwell, London SW9 9AE

The event will be in the style of BBC question time and will have representatives from the 3 main parties as well as 2 other panelists (1 of the panelists will be Crossroads Rider himself) and a chair. Motorcyclists should come along and ask questions of these people to encourage them to think more about motorcyclists if they get elected. Let’s have a show of rider force at this event and you can get your messages direct and the next possibly MP’s let’s make them aware that we will not roll over to any potential future decisions they make regarding motorcycling in London.

** – Tuesday 20th April – 7pm, Westminster City Hall, 64 Victoria St, London, SW1

This EMERGENCY seating of the WCC Built & Environment Scrutiny Committee (Remember them and their farcical meeting last year, vid here?) has been called in the wake of the Parking Enforcement Contract Award debacle for which WCC is now being sued for £50m by APCOA. Should be fascinating for any of you that have been following the investigations into how the incumbent NSL Ltd simply assumed these contracts back in 2007, let’s remind them that we wil keep digging, let’s not let them have this meeing alone.. it is a public meeting after all!.

**** – Wednesday 21st April, 7.30am WMBC at venue TBA

Register here for SMS text message.

**** – Wednesday 28th April, 7.30am WMBC at venue TBA

Register here for SMS text message.

*** – Wednesday 28th April – 8pm, Full Westminster City Council Meeting, Venue TBA

At the full Council Meeting, Cllr Dimoldenberg will be tabling a motion for a full independent inquiry into WCC’s parking policies following a “catalogue of financial disasters, unpopular policy decisions and legal blunders”. These meetings are viewable from the public gallery and the last time NTBPT attended, our presence in utter silence was powerfully felt.

***** – Saturday 1st May – Midday ride-out (start TBA) to Chalkley & Barrow’s Ward (MEGA DEMO!)

Our first weekend demo for a while, a not before time according to you out-of-towners who can’t get to WMBC or WESC. As phase 1 of our "negative electioneering" campaign, we will take to the street to affix leaflets to shop windows, residents’ cars and through letterboxes with a simple message "By all means Vote Tory, BUT NOT THIS ONE. There are 2 others standing, called …… & …….. Sometimes the word "con" after their name means exactly that – a con." To have another group promotong themselves by down-playing you as a candidate is a bad enough prospect. When that group is NOT selling themselves, just down-playing you – that’s crucifying. Ask and candidate. PLEASE MAKE EVERY EFFORT TO JOIN US FOR A MASSIVE SHOW OF RIDER FORCE BEFORE THE ELECTION, LET’S REMIND THEM THAT RIDERS ARE VOETERS!

***** – Wednesday 5th May – WESC followed by ride-out to Chalkley & Barrow’s Ward

The second gathering of the WESC is also phase 2 of our "negative electioneering" campaign. More leaflets through letterboxes.

*********** – Thursday 6th May – Election Day

VOLUNTEERS are urgently required to leaflet the electorate against voting for Chalkley & Barrow. NB, by law, we cannot be within 250m of the Polling Station. But whatever happens we need to kick these guys out of Westminster City Hall, they decided to tax us to park, let’s show them that we will not let them get way with it so easily.

All the best,

Warren and the NTBPT Committee

Our “Day In Court” is looming ever-closer… time for another MEGA demo. #110 [No To Bike Parking Tax]

April 13th, 2010

Welcome again! This is becoming a pattern to the hundreds of new campaign supporters now on the mailing list, you guys just keep on flooding in! Lots to get through this week, bare with us!

With the prospect of our “Day In Court” looming ever-closer (although the Court has not officially given us a date) we once again must look to you for your support to our legal fund, so please give us much as you can, assured that these funds are used solely for legal expenses.

With that in mind, as soon as the Court date is announced, we intend to publish a full account of funds collected and legal invoices paid. Added will be the legal estimates of the actual hearing so we should all be aware of the implications.

However, please be also assured that, as the case is in our Chairman’s name, no costs can be claimed by WCC against anyone else who may have donated, should the Court find against us. In layman’s terms, that means that he is facing financial ruin, a sacrifice he has always be prepared to make for something he believes in so strongly. in consideration of this, as we will all benefit from a successful result, helping fund the action at £10 each should be a no-brainer for any biker. Please donate here.

The “WMBC”

As we prepare to ride out on our 6th WMBC tomorrow (or today 14th April depending on when you read this!), the authorities are getting increasingly concerned at the Police’s inability to stop us. This is resulting in ever-more threatening emails to us from the Met as below:-

Warren,

I have been asked to help organise the policing for your Wednesday ‘Breakfast’ processions. I have been fully briefed in regards to the meeting you had with Sgt Dianne Jones in which you were made fully aware of your legal responsibility as the organiser under S.11 Public Order Act 1984.

In regards to your application for 7th April this was delivered to us late, the legal requirement is delivery to a police station six (6) days prior to your event. Should you be planning another event for the 14th April 2010 (which I believe you are from your website) at time of writing this no application has been received in compliance with S.11 Public Order Act 1984. In order to redress this, for this occasion only, can you please produce a written/typed and signed copy for my attention, to be delivered to Charing Cross police station today.

It would also assist me if you could give me further dates and locations in advance so that I can try and negotiate resources. I am aware that a S.12 (Public Order Act 1984) warning was issued to you re the procession on the 7th April, and would prefer to try and facilitate your events to prevent this occurring again. My aim is also to prevent re-occurring breaches of S.11 (Public Order Act 1984) which could result in a Summons to appear in Court being issued against you and may well damage your cause.

We wish to work with you not against you so please call or email me today to discuss further and arrange the delivery of the application.

Regards,

MET Police

Hopefully, you will see this as more of an incentive, as law-abiding citizens, to join us every Wednesday morning as we, perfectly legally, take to the streets en-masse to show that, if WCC want to treat us like cars, we will congest like cars. This in mind, we are delighted to receive a contingent of riders coming up from Brighton tomorrow – fair play to them!

The Local Elections – let’s spread OUR message to the WCC Residents!

The announcement of the local elections threw up 2 surprises for us. Firstly, contrary to reports from all WCC Councillors that, ironically, we had done them a favour by convincing Danny-boy Chalkley to step down, looks like he’s not wanted over at TFL and has decided to stand again. The second surprise is that his nomination was second by none other than Tory MP for Westminster Mark Field. No wonder Mark has been reticent to investigate any wrongdoing by Danny-Boy!!

Anyway, the opportunity is there for us, and as we posted on the forum (whose numbers are being swollen daily, mainly due to WMBC), the following plan of action:-

It’s time to launch a huge “negative” electioneering campaign – by that I mean the NTBPT will hit the electioneering trail NOT championing our own, BUT by convincing the electorate to NOT vote for either Chalkley of Barrow, or any other supporter of the bike parking tax.

Phase 1

Can I ask you all to put the following date in your diary for the “NTBPT Election Special Demo” which will take place on Saturday, 1st May 2010 where we will distribute leaflets fliers & posters with the simplest of messages:-

“Vote YES to Tories, if that is your want, but NO to Danny Chalkley – there are 2 other GENUINE Tory Candidates, please vote for them. Sometimes the word “CON” after the candidate’s name can mean exactly that, a “con”! For more information as to why you shouldn’t vote for this individual, please visit (add link)”.

Phase 2

I am proposing the following email be sent to ALL the WCC Candidates:-

Now that the WCC Parking Department (having itself already racked up an astonishing £10m deficit) is facing its third legal challenge from APCOA to compliment the EU Commissioners’ Investigation and the our Campaign’s own Claim in the High Court, all as a result of the megalomaniac ideals of Alastair Gilchrist and those at 64 Victoria Street so quick to defend him, we will be extending our street demos to include an all-out assault on the residents of Colin Barrow’s & Danny Chalkley’s ward inviting them to, by all means vote Conservative, but NOT for either of these 2 individuals. With over 8,000 supporters, we are more than able to include any other candidate who supports their despicable, and totally unjustified attack on motorcyclist by charging them to park. Therefore, could you by return let us know if you, as a candidate support this tax? Unfortunately, should you choose not to reply, we can only assume that you do support it.

Phase 3

I need as many of you to volunteer to man the various Polling Stations to hand out our Anti-Chalkley/Barrow/whoever-else leaflets on May 6th – please let us know if you are available by sending email direct to [email protected]

Let’s really show them what people power is all about – especially when the same people are ignored!!

Summary

With the legal fund, the WMBC, and now, the anti-Barrow/Chalkley/Harvey & whoever electioneering, there is something for every single one of our true supporters to get involved with. Please make every effort to

Join us on Saturday, May 1st 2010 for the MEGA demo (details to follow)!

and if you need any more incentive, here another message from the Police asking us NOT to do May 1st:-

Warren – Be aware that we may not be able to facilitate anything for 1st May due to the HUGE aid pressures for May day. We have a vast number of demo’s occurring throughout Westminster for the whole weekend and are likely to need all available resources for that……let me know where, when and what date and i can see what we can do but a contingency date would be appreciated.” – MET Police

Finally, let’s really ensure that everyone going near a ballot box in those key wards knows which NAMES to AVOID!! Please volunteer on May 6th.
